What are TMC Filter Socks?

The TMC Filter Socks are a type of filter floss that offers fine mechanical filtration within aquarium sumps and filters. These filter bags are great for polishing off aquarium water that contains fine debris, such as excess food, and even microbubbles as well as other undesirable substances within sump filters. These organic wastes can become a large problem within an aquarium and lead to poor fish health over time as they increase ammonia levels.

A stand can be purchased separately for easy installation or you can simply put them in your sump as is. Filter socks will degrade over time, just like media in other filters, and will need to be changed occasionally to ensure they are working at their best.

What is the difference between the filter socks in this range?

The filter socks in this range come in two different types of fabric and a range of sizes. All of the socks are 4 inches in diameter, giving them a large surface area and enough space to fit into most sump filters. Each polyester filter sock is shorter and finer, making them better suited for removing small debris from the water, while each nylon filter sock is longer and more coarse, making them more suitable for handling large debris.

Generally, we would recommend the polyester socks for slightly smaller tanks than the nylon socks.
