Bolbitis Heteroclita, commonly known as Asian Water Fern or Bolbitis Broadleaf, is an easy care fern that grows well in low light aquariums with emersed sections. Like other similar species, these plants benefit from elevated humidity to prevent drying leaves. Bolbitis Heteroclita features bright green color on broad, ribbed leaves. It is an epiphyte and will self-attach to porous surfaces like hardscape rocks and driftwood.
Bolbitis can survive submerged in planted aquariums, but will need CO2 injection and a liquid plant fertilizer to support its growth. We find these plants are much happier when planted above the surface in terrariums or paludarium-like tanks. In this position, they have humidity, access to water and plenty of CO2. They are slow-growing, but with patience, will produce lush, leafy bushes of green in a planted setup when provided with consistent care and stable conditions. Propagate your Bolbitis easily by separating the rhizome gently.
